AKIL uses artificial intelligence to extract and analyze deterrent and compellent threats from historical archives including encyclopedias, declassified documents, and news articles from the 1918 to 2018, creating a comprehensive daily-level dataset of international threats. The project employs natural language processing to identify threat specificity, severity, accompanying actions, and communication channels. The database expands the International Crisis Behavior dataset by incorporating extensive textual data and developing granular measures of threat characteristics during international crises.
